Preliminary Exercise
Statement of Intent:
I plan to create a short children's science fiction drama set in a school. I will use a range of shots such as establishing shots, medium shots, over the shoulder shots, long shots, close up and extreme close ups. I will also use high and low angled shots (bird's eye and worm's eye view) to illustrate the danger of a situation or the superiority that the characters have.
I will attempt to subvert the bad representation of adolescents and girls. Usually, teens are seen as trouble making and selfish and although the teens in my 'film' will get into trouble it will be for the greater good. Girls are often represented as weak and timid. I intend to subvert this stereotype by making girls responsible, independent and courageous.
Script:
Narrator - No one knows who she is. No one knows where she came from, how she got here or why she is here. But you always knew it was her because of her coat.
*Camera long shot of girl in a yellow raincoat*
Narrator - A pastel lemonade raincoat that she wore, rain or shine. Some people began to think she would never take it off.
*Camera draws closer to the figure*
Narrator - Then something happened.
*She turns her head suddenly to the side, as if hearing something, a second later she breaks into a sprint until she is off camera, a group of shuffling, slow students follow in her path*
Narrator - The world would never be the same again...
*Cut to the girl running, the students follow*
*She turns a corner and the 'zombie' students pass by*
*Breathing a sigh of relief, she slips into school and meets up with a few fellow survivors*
