Audience Theory
1) Write a definition of a passive audience:
An audience that has the same views and reactions, does not interact with the media actively.
2) Write a definition of an active audience:
Actively interacts with the media with different views and expectations of the media. Looks to be engaged.
3) Write a definition of the hypodermic needle theory:
The theory that the media could influence a very large group of people uniformly by ‘injecting’ them with simple messages designed to trigger a desired response.
4) Write down a media text for each category of Blumler and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory and WHY it fits that particular audience use/gratification:
INFORMATION/SURVEILLANCE: Blue planet
> Why: The clip addresses the involvement of new footage and landscapes 'never seen before'. It teaches about the wonders of underwater life and how their world is different to ours.
